Welcome to Mountain View

Mountain View is nestled between the Santa Cruz Mountains and San Francisco Bay, about 10 miles north of San Jose. Downtown Castro Street is the heart of the city. Its 100, 200, and 300 blocks are now a pedestrian mall. Caltrain, including Baby Bullet service, meets VTA light rail at Mountain View Station on West Evelyn Avenue.

Along the bay, Shoreline at Mountain View spans 750 acres of wildlife refuge and recreation, with a sailing lake and golf links. The Computer History Museum and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts are here too. Highway 101, State Route 237, and Central Expressway serve the city. Students attend the Mountain View Whisman School District through eighth grade and the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District for high school.

Mountain View's neighborhoods range from single-family ranch-style homes south of El Camino Real to single-story Eichler subdivisions and the varied architecture of downtown. Multifamily homes make up a large share of the city's housing as well.
